Inaugural Weta Victorian State Championship, McCrae Yacht Club, Mornington Peninsula, VIC
McCrae YC will host the Inaugural Weta Victorian State Championships as part of the Ronstan Australia Day Regatta on 25 and 26 Jan 2020.
Racing will consist of 6 Windward/Leeward races over 2 days in our own division on the beautiful Port Phillip Bay waters off McCrae followed by a social day (27 Jan 2020) for Weta sailors to meet Australian Weta Class (AWCA) President , Geoff Waldon (NSW), and AWCA Secretary, Hamish Urquhart (QLD), compare boats, tweaks, camera mounts, go for a bit of a cruise if we’re up for it – or go to lunch if we’re all a bit exhausted from racing.
Ronstan are the main sponsors of the regatta and are committed to ensuring you have a good time. In Jan 2019, they put on a BBQ after sailing, a media boat on the water, prizes for each division as well as some fun prizes for shenanigans – if you want to make sure you win something, go for the biggest cartwheel you can manage and you’ll probably walk away with some Ronstan kit!
All Weta sailors are welcome! The Australian Weta Class Association has invested in beautiful trophies for first, second and third as well as a perpetual Victorian State Championship Trophy – which is looking very nice on my mantlepiece at the moment!

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO NEXT!
Get excited – it’s a chance to sail in a larger Weta fleet that you usually do. We’ve had 11 boats express interest to date and we’re just getting started!
Join the AWCA or renew your AWCA membership online here (go on, it’s only $50 and the class promotes Wetas all over Australia… they’re even putting up the trophies!)
Keep an eye on the 2020 Ronstan Australia Day Regatta webpage for club details, location and facilities.
*** STOP PRESS *** Registrations are now open and early bird entry is only $40!! You will need to know your AS member number and insurance details as part of the registration process. Also, remember to add 1-up vs 2-up and PH vs SQ in the Class details to make sure you have the right handicap applied to your results (these can be updated on Saturday 25/01/20 during morning check-in if you want to change your configuration
Watch the video from 2019 Ronstan Australia Day Regatta that we put together of the Weta sailors who tested the venue last year - it was great fun and Ronstan put up a bunch of prizes for all kind of things, not just winners!
Get ready to meet a bunch of enthusiastic Weta sailors who are just as pleased with their boats as you are! Even some of the class stalwarts from interstate are making the trip south to attend!
This regatta will cater for all levels of ability so don’t be daunted if you haven’t raced before or for a while! Weta’s are a fun boat and the people sailing them enjoy the experience. You will be very welcome to join us at any stage over the long week-end. If you’re not sure about racing, you are still very welcome to come along on Monday 27 Jan 2020 to meet the AWCA and your fellow Weta owners! If you are still not sure, email me at weta.vic.champs@gmail.com and we can continue the discussion!
